The City Council voted 8–3 on Tuesday to approve a comprehensive transit plan that city officials say will modernise public transportation and ease traffic congestion across the metro area.

The $2.3 billion initiative includes the expansion of the light rail system, 137 new electric buses, and improved transit hubs in underserved neighbourhoods.

“This is a transformative step toward a more connected and sustainable city,” said Mayor Elena Ruiz. “Residents have asked for better transit for decades. Today, we deliver.”
